Our Commitment to Your Privacy

HOB is a personal finance tracking tool. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. We will never sell your data or use it for anything other than providing you with our budgeting service.

What Information We Collect

Account Information

Email address (for login and essential communications)
Password (encrypted - we never see your actual password)
Display name (optional)

Financial Data You Enter

Account names and balances
Transaction details (amounts, dates, payees, categories)
Budget information
Investment transactions and holdings

Important: We strongly recommend you DO NOT enter full account numbers, passwords, or any sensitive banking credentials. HOB is designed to track your finances manually - we never connect directly to your bank.

Usage Data

Pages you visit within HOB
Features you use
Error logs (to help us fix bugs)
Analytics data (if enabled - we may use Google Analytics to improve the service)

How We Use Your Information

To provide the service: Display your financial data back to you in organized reports and budgets
To authenticate you: Verify your identity when you log in
Essential communications: Notify you of system maintenance, security issues, or critical updates
To improve HOB: Analyze usage patterns to make the service better (anonymized where possible)
To fix problems: Debug errors and technical issues

We will NEVER: Sell your email, financial data, or any personal information to third parties. Our business model is subscription fees, not data monetization.

Who Can Access Your Data

HOB Founder/Administrator

As the founder of HOB, I (the sole administrator) have technical access to the database for:

Customer support: Helping you troubleshoot issues with your account
Debugging: Investigating and fixing bugs you report
System maintenance: Ensuring the service runs properly

My Commitment:

I will only access your data when necessary for legitimate support or technical reasons
I will never browse your financial information out of curiosity
I treat your data with the same respect I'd want for my own
As a solo founder, your trust is my business - I take that seriously

This is standard for all SaaS applications - database administrators at any cloud-based financial service have the same technical access. The difference is trust and ethics.

Who We Share Data With

Service Providers

Supabase: Our database and authentication provider. Your data is stored securely on their servers with encryption.
Vercel: Our hosting provider. They serve the application but don't access your data.

External APIs

Yahoo Finance: We fetch current stock prices for investment tracking. We only send ticker symbols (e.g., "AAPL"), never your personal data.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law enforcement or court order. However, since we don't store sensitive data like full account numbers, we would have limited information to provide.

We will NEVER: Sell, rent, or trade your data to advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies.

How We Protect Your Data

All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/SSL)
Database is encrypted at rest (managed by Supabase)
Passwords are hashed - we never see your actual password
Regular security updates and monitoring

While we take security seriously, no system is 100% secure. That's why we recommend not entering sensitive data like full account numbers or banking passwords.

Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies for:

Authentication: Keep you logged in between sessions
Analytics: Understand how the service is used
Preferences: Remember your settings

You can disable cookies in your browser, but this will prevent you from logging in to HOB.

Your Rights and Choices

Access Your Data

All your data is visible to you in your account at any time. You have full control over what you enter and can view everything in the app.

Export Your Data

We offer CSV export functionality so you can download your financial data.

Delete Your Data

You can delete all your data Settings page. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

Stop Receiving Emails

We only send essential service emails (security alerts, system maintenance). You cannot opt out of these while maintaining an account.

Children's Privacy

HOB is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us so we can delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of HOB after changes means you accept the updated policy.
